Rules & Information

This cemetery is an endowment care cemetery.
The Eugene Masonic Cemetery is privately owned and operated for the public benefit
by the Eugene Masonic Cemetery Association (EMCA).
The EMCA is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

We envision a well-maintained historic cemetery—a welcoming and natural setting where all people may continue to come to inter, honor and remember those who have died.

Our mission is to restore, rehabilitate, maintain, interpret and operate the historic Eugene Masonic Cemetery and Hope Abbey Mausoleum as a cultural and natural resource for the community.

Designated as an Oregon Historic Cemetery, the cemetery is noted for the beauty, solitude and tranquility of its landscape, which contains both heritage and native plants, as well as a distinguished collection of early Eugene grave markers. It is an operating cemetery, honoring the past, yet meeting the needs of the present.

By law, the EMCA must place a percentage of the sale prices of interment rights into an endowment to support perpetual care, maintenance and preservation of the cemetery. Because the cemetery is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is an operating cemetery licensed by the State of Oregon, the EMCA is also mandated by the government to develop policies to maintain the cemetery’s dignity, safety, and historic and natural resources.

The EMCA has established rules and procedures intended to ensure care of the cemetery and its important cultural and natural resources. Questions regarding these may be directed to the EMCA Administrator by calling (541)684-0949 or writing to emca1859@gmail.com.

The following general rules, which apply to all users of the cemetery, are intended to support the vision and mission of the EMCA and to ensure responsible care of the cemetery, while respecting all its cultural, historic and natural resources. Permission to be on cemetery grounds can be revoked if the following rules are not followed.

The EMCA reserves the right to change rules and policies at any time. Any exception to the rules will only be made after a written request is submitted to the Board President or their designee.
