Part of the EMCA’s mission is to present the cemetery as a cultural resource for the community. For many years, we have used Memorial Day weekend as a natural time to present the cemetery to the public, with special displays in Hope Abbey as well as activities related to the unique aspects of the grounds and memorials.
More recently, we have taken advantage of the unusual acoustics of Hope Abbey to present concerts there by small groups during the months when the building is warm enough. Open-air concerts with larger groups have been well received, too, and have now become another way for the cemetery to enrich the cultural life of our community.
In addition to these audience-related events, we invite the public to visit Hope Abbey from 1 to 4 p.m. on the last Sunday of each month except December. At least two knowledgable people will be on hand to guide visitors and answer questions.
