Did You Know?
 Thomas Condon, an infant émigré from Ireland, was the first person to identify the John Day Fossil Beds, an important paleontological area.     Condon, an ordained minister, visited first in 1865, and started excavating. Specimens he sent to eastern museums for verification sparked scientific interest.  
   He was appointed the first State Geologist in 1872, and would later become a professor at the University of Oregon. Condon is buried in the Eugene Masonic Cemetery.

Music To Die For
Western Tanagers
October 29th at 2 PM
Hope Abbey, Eugene Masonic Cemetery
 
The Western Tanagers play acoustic music on string instruments and marimba, and try not to limit the style of the music they play. Their repertoire ranges from Appalachian to Cajun to Swedish fiddle tunes, with some early 50s pop music as well as some bluegrass and country. The band includes (l to r) Scoop McGuire, John Hicks, Alan Phillips,
Jim Dotson and Sam Jones. They try to make sure the audience has as good a time as they do.  
 
I have it on good authority that the songs in this concert are seasonably appropriate. Beware! 
 
Park on Potter or at the cemetery entrance at E 25th & University. Gates open at 1 PM for those who need assistance getting to the Abbey. Arrive early to a get a seat as this is a free concert. Please know that since Hope Abbey has no heat in the building, it will be cool. Dress warmly.  
 
This is the last concert in the 2017 season. Music To Die For will return in June, 2018.
