MEMORIAL DAY ACTIVITIES

You are invited to attend our annual Memorial Day Weekend Open House, May 23, 24, and 25, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Hope Abbey Mausoleum will be "dressed to the nines" and the cemetery naturally beautiful with green grass and Spring flowers. Flags will be placed on all Veterans' graves.
We will be commemorating the 150th Anniversary (Sesquicentennial) of the End of the Civil War. Our title for this three-day event is "Remembering the End of the Civil War."
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
All Three Days (May 23, 24 & 25) at 12:00 Noon
Veteran Adrian Vaaler will play "Taps" in the
at the top of the hill. Arrive a little early to hear him perform his moving interpretation on his cornet.
All Three Days, 10:00 - 4:00

* Children and adults can participate in the Veterans' History Hunt.
* Self guided walking tours on cemetery paths (maps available in Hope Abbey)

In Hope Abbey, Carol Houde will display a beautiful 1860's dress that could have been worn as a wedding gown. Carol has more than 40 vintage dresses in her collection. She will be on hand to answer your questions.
Immediately following "Taps" in the
Public Square, President Abraham Lincoln will deliver his profound Second Inaugural Address. Portland actor Steve Holgate, praised as "the best Lincoln in America," will perform. Thanks go to Bob Hart, Executive Director of the Lane County Historical Society, for arranging to have President Lincoln here.
In Hope Abbey, William and Carla Coleman, professional entertainers and recording artists, will present original and period Civil War music and readings through a series of expertly crafted vignettes titled, "Touched With Fire."
In Hope Abbey, History Professor Emeritus, Jack Maddex, Ph.D, University of Oregon, will speak about "Oregon's Connection to the Civil War." Dr. Maddex has specialized in and written about the Civil War. Prepare your questions!
